PIEPS announces a voluntary transmitter upgrade program to improve the safety of its DSP avalanche beepers.
News for all freeride lovers. The PIEPS company announces a program of voluntary modernization of electronic sensors to improve the mechanism of blocking and switching of avalanche beepers of the DSP series. The program involves receiving a new hard carrying case for the DSP PRO, DSP PRO ICE and DSP SPORT avalanche beepers, thanks to which the beepers switch to signal transmission mode and are locked in this mode during use.
This hard case replaces the outdated neoprene carrying system that used to be included with DSP avalanche beepers. The program covers DSP products manufactured between 2013 and 2020.
The main office of the PIEPS company receives questions about avalanche sensors DSP PRO, DSP PRO ICE and DSP SPORT. All these models have an identical mechanism for switching and blocking the product in signal transmission mode. We believe that these questions were raised in connection with two cases of avalanches, one of which occurred in 2017, and the second - in the spring of 2020. After these events, there were claims of malfunctioning of the safety mechanism of blocking / switching in the DSP PRO / SPORT during avalanche steps. However, tests have shown that the locking / switching mechanism in DSP PRO, DSP PRO ICE and DSP SPORT meets all the stated safety standards.
The PIEPS company is responsible for the safety of its products and their users and upholds the prestige of all its high-precision products for off-piste skiing, ski touring, mountaineering. Customer confidence in our products is extremely important to us, so the PIEPS R&D department has created a new hard carrying case for all beepers in the series DSP to replace the neoprene cover that was included in the delivery set of DSP beepers. The new portable hard case design provides added security, locking your beeper in the transmitting position when in use and locking the device in that position. We believe that a hard case will fundamentally change the situation and help ensure the safety and efficiency of the DSP beeper for all users.
Customers should contact PIEPS for a new hard case. From now on, DSP beepers should only be used with a new hard case. This voluntary product upgrade program affects only PIEPS DSP PRO, DSP PRO ICE and DSP SPORT avalanche sensors.
The voluntary product upgrade program does not affect any other avalanche beepers or products in the PIEPS range. PIEPS strongly advises all users of PIEPS avalanche rescue equipment to strictly follow the product's operating instructions, including a thorough safety and functional test before each use.
PIEPS has conducted extensive research into the safety and performance of the respective products, including in-house and third-party testing. The results showed that the products meet international standards, are properly designed and function properly.
However, PIEPS has recently developed a portable hard case for the DSP PRO, DSP PRO ICE and DSP SPORT, in which the beepers are used only with a fixed "send" setting. We have developed a solution that makes our products safer than the standards require.
