Kona bicycles were created by two cycling enthusiasts: Jacob Heilbron and Dan Gerhard, who are still at the helm of the company, founded in 1988. The full name of the company is Kona Bicycle Company, its place of foundation is Vancouver (Canada), but the headquarters are also spread around the world - Washington, Geneva, Monaco, to speed up communications with business and customers.
Currently, the brand is widely represented in more than 60 countries around the world, and all because over the years of its existence, the Kona brand has consistently demonstrated a specific high competitive quality of the premium level; Kona has always been and is in search of innovative solutions, in close communication with top cyclists; had an attractive original design and unforgettable creative names for the entire line of bicycles (associated primarily with the love of the founders of Kona Bikes for Hawaii, namely the city of Kailua-Kona or simply Kona, for short). There is a lasting impression that Kona bicycles, like few others, have their own face, character and soul. Names such as Hakuna, Makuna, Hahhanah, Haole, Kuku, Dr. Dew, Major Jake, Jake the Snake, Operator, Hei-Hei, Libre, Rowe, Unit, Process, Fire Mountain, Wo and Woo and the like (and we haven't delved too deeply into the history of the brand, where THE ENTIRE BRAND is like that) - pure creativity and imagination, inspired by the environment, which plays even stronger in tandem with a unique bold design.
The brand specializes in mountain bikes of various orientations. For example, Kona were the first to almost immediately start using sloping bicycle frame tubes in their entire product line. Kona makes its bicycles from 4 types of materials - carbon, aluminum, chrome-molybdenum and titanium. The company constantly communicates with users of its products, feedback for Kona Bikes is one of the most important priorities. Kona Bikes also constantly takes an active part in various social and infrastructure projects, where it helps not only with advice, but also with finances and bicycles. Fundraising, providing cycling (and not only) infrastructure, development and improvement, initiating social initiatives - where it can, considering it simply its duty to society and friends who have entrusted their cycling lives to the brand.
The company has its own Kona Factory Team, and riders from various teams have in their track record victories in cross-country, cyclocross (yes, cyclocross, but what!), downhill (gravity), enduro, BMX and other disciplines, while city bikes are constantly noted in various design competitions. The names that have associated themselves with the history of Kona bicycles are also impressive - Ryder Heshdahl, Steve Peet, Jeff Kabush, Tracy Moseley, Andrew Lacondeguy, Maurice Terneuzo, Max Jones, Roland Green, Doug Lafavor, Cindy Devine, Greg Minard, Fabien Barel, Joe Smith, Ryan Treborn, Joe Murray, Antoine Bizet, Graham Aggasiz, Helen Wyman, Corey Wallace, Ali Osgood and many others. Many of the above names have been inducted into the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame. So many people, so many destinies and interesting stories! You could be the next one!
