POC is a leading manufacturer of helmets, eyewear, body protection, clothing and accessories for winter sports and cycling. The company was founded in 2005 in Sweden.
POC's mission is to "protect lives and reduce the consequences of accidents for athletes and all those who are inspired to be one." POC has a clear vision of how to optimize personal protection and organize safety. This is all possible thanks to high-tech developments, which result in products of high quality and compliance.
To support its development and continuous improvement of its products, POC decides to create its own scientific platforms, POC Lab and WATTS Lab, in order to involve leading scientists, professors and specialists in the fields of research, medicine and safety in the development process.
POC LAB
This is the scientific laboratory of POC, which includes leading experts from various disciplines and sports medicine, scientists who study the brain, specialists in working with spinal cord injuries. Thanks to their analyses, consultation and support, POC creates reliable technological protection and equipment.
POC Lab members are selected based on their unique expertise. Each member shares POC's mission to do everything possible to save lives and reduce injuries in the event of an accident.
To ensure that the products are optimal, POC relies on the recommendations of marketing technologists and involves professional athletes in the creation process, including X Games riders, professional cyclists, and World Cup skiers. The athletes actually test the finished products on themselves and give their recommendations and comments on their comfort and functionality. Thus, the entire team is involved in the product creation process: scientists, technologists, developers and professional athletes.
Upon completion of all these stages, the product is transferred to mass production and reaches the shelves of authorized ROS dealers.
WATTS LAB
WATTS Lab is a highly specialized department that works on optimizing the performance and improving the aerodynamic properties of individual categories of POC products. Such developments allow us to create products that significantly help professional athletes in practice to cover a given distance faster, using less effort and energy.
WATTS Lab draws on the knowledge and experience of the professional cycling team Cannondale-Drapac Pro Cycling, and aerodynamicists in the field of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). All members of the development team are selected based on their background and practical experience. Their level of competence determines the entire development process, which ultimately affects their performance and aerodynamic efficiency.
ROS partnership with Volvo Car Group
The cooperation between POC and Volvo Car Group is aimed at one goal: achieving safety for all road users. This is a unique opportunity to exchange experience and knowledge, to jointly explore new ideas in the field of safety and design, and then implement them in our products and services.
The R&D projects of POC and Volvo focus on the interaction between cars and cyclists. With 80 years of experience in road safety development, Volvo shares its competence and vision with POC. Together they managed to conduct full-scale tests, crash tests and make changes to their development processes. Not just theory, but real practice makes it possible to understand what happens to the cyclist's body at the time of an accident, which parts of the body are subjected to the greatest load, which organs are affected first, what happens to the human brain and spinal cord at the time of a collision? The answers to these questions are embodied in a properly designed helmet and body protection. In turn, such research allows Volvo to improve its automatic emergency braking system and identification of cyclists on the road during movement, which was launched in 2013.
In addition, ROS collaborates with Volvo in the field of aerodynamics, using their wind tunnel in their research and testing. Volvo is part of the POC WATTS Lab.
Partnership with the world leader in optics - CARL ZEISS.
Carl Zeiss is a company known for its best-in-class optics in the field of ophthalmic lenses, lenses for medical equipment, and photo optics. Together with Carl Zeiss, POC manufactures its lenses for a whole range of glasses and ski masks, and works together on new developments and their implementation into products. The POC Zeiss line offers a wide selection of lenses for any weather conditions: from special lenses for very bright sunny weather to innovative lenses for evening skiing - Clarity Comp Night Vision lens. These lenses are used in the professional series of ski masks - Competition.
Patents, technologies and awards of the Russian Federation
CLARITY is a patented POC technology used in optics. Developed in collaboration with CARL ZEISS. The technology is characterized by a high contrast ratio, rich color reproduction, and versatility of use conditions (both in cloudy conditions and in bright weather).
NIGHT VISION LENS - lenses for ski masks used for evening and night skiing. Developed in collaboration with the leader in the field of optics, CARL ZEISS. This type of lens is used in the professional series of ski masks - COMP. The essence of the technology is to adapt the athlete's vision to artificial lighting on the slope, which is unusual for the human eye and interferes with the natural perception of objects, their shadows and penumbra.
SOLAR SWITCH LENS is the world's first solar-powered liquid crystal lens that instantly and automatically changes tint between VLT 2 and 3 categories. Provides a darker lens tint in bright sunny weather and switches to a lighter tint in cloudy conditions.
SPIN (Shearing Pad Inside) - patented POC, an integrated system of silicone pads used in ski and bike helmets to absorb impact force and distribute energy from oblique impacts to prevent concussions in severe falls.
PATENT-PENDING BREAKAWAY VISOR- The patented POC technology is embodied in the adjustable visor base of DH, Trail, Enduro, MTB bicycle helmets. When a cyclist falls, absorbing the impact, the visor flies off the mount and unfastens. Thus, minimizing the impact force transmitted to the rider's neck.
VPD (Visco-Elastic Polymer Dough) – material based on a viscous elastic polymer. Absorbs impact energy well, has a high strength margin, is puncture resistant, and elastic. It was developed in the POC laboratory in collaboration with Dr. Claes Hultling and the Spinal Cord Injury Research Institute. This development is used in the creation of body protection and helmets.
VDSAP system (Ventilated Double Shell Anti-Penetration) - patented POC ventilation system, which is a design of two ventilated shells offset relative to each other, creating maximum protection against sharp objects entering the ventilation holes while maintaining good airflow and ventilation.
POC has received more than 60 international awards for innovation, safety and protection, including the prestigious Brand of the Year award in the cycling industry.
POC is a progressive brand with its own special mission and unique path of development. Every year they surprise the world with something, developing new technologies, embodying crazy ideas in their products. In order to understand the philosophy of the POC brand, you need to abstract from our usual type of thinking and perception of surrounding things, and switch to the "Scandinavian" type: things should be reliable and practical, responsibility - high, a constant desire to develop and improve, to be honest, responsible, friendly to nature, others. It seems that this is how they imagine the formula for success and happiness.
