For over 45 years, the Pieps brand has been developing and creating products that help improve safety in the mountains and snowy areas. Even today, avalanches cause a large number of victims every winter. This often happens in situations where people are not prepared and do not have the necessary equipment to use it correctly and quickly in a dangerous situation. If you are going to ski, snowboard or ski tour, make sure that you are well prepared and know how to use the Pieps avalanche safety equipment and devices. Can you "read" avalanche slopes? Is the equipment correctly placed? Do your team members have the necessary skills? On this website you will learn everything you need to know about the brand and avalanche safety for winter sports, and about all the products.
Pieps was founded in 1967, although it was originally called R & D, and had the motto: "Premium Alpine Performance". Pieps wanted to produce quality equipment that would help increase the safety of people in snowy and mountainous regions. This was to be possible through the creation and implementation of new technologies. The then small company had to find a way to achieve this goal.
Five years after the brand was founded, Pieps launched its first avalanche transceiver, or avalanche beacon, marking the beginning of the Pieps brand as we know it. 1972 was a milestone for the company, as the receivers formed the basis of innovative technologies that the brand later developed and expanded to create its current range. After many years of growth and expansion, the company is now known worldwide as a leading supplier of high-quality equipment for protecting freeriders caught in avalanches. The company has grown in recognition and size, now selling not only avalanche transceivers, but also ski backpacks, backpacks with airbags, probes, avalanche shovels and other accessories that will help save your life in the event of an avalanche.
The brand's main products:
- Avalanche sensor
An avalanche transceiver or avalanche beacon is a handy and compact device that is worn on the skier’s body under their clothing and can significantly increase your chances of surviving an avalanche. An avalanche transceiver will help you locate your friends or be detected in the event of an avalanche, operating at a frequency of 457 kHz. The transceivers are compact and lightweight, making them easy to carry in your backpack or pocket. You must turn on the transceiver before you start skiing or snowboarding, or before you get behind the wheel of a snowmobile in the mountains!
An important rule - turn on the sensor before you leave the hotel and go to the slope!
- Avalanche probe
If you or a friend are caught in an avalanche, you can use an avalanche transceiver to pinpoint your location. For more accurate location determination, you need to use an avalanche probe. The probe is a long, foldable stick that you can use to poke through the snow to try to pinpoint where someone is under a thick layer of snow. Pieps probes have a number of useful features, such as being foldable so they can be easily carried in your backpack. They are also made of lightweight materials and come in a variety of lengths. And some models have additional sensors built into the end of the probe.
- Avalanche shovel
Once you can pinpoint the victim’s exact location, you can use an avalanche shovel to dig them out of the snow. Pieps shovels are available in a wide range of sizes and designs. All models of shovels are compact and easy to assemble and carry in backpacks. These features make it easy to take the shovels with you and save time in a situation where every minute counts. If someone is caught in an avalanche, they have an average of 15-18 minutes of oxygen left. This makes it vital to quickly locate and extract them from the avalanche. By combining a transceiver, probe and shovel, you increase the chances of survival for you and your companions.
4. Backpacks with JETFORCE system
Pieps' range includes not only sensors, shovels, probes, but also real wonders of modern engineering. An expert in the field of avalanche safety, of course, cannot miss the latest and perhaps the most important novelty of the last decades: Pieps Jetforce, an electronic avalanche backpack of the company's own design.
Jetforce backpacks meet all the needs of a freerider and ski tourer. Unlike many other airbags on the market that are triggered by a cartridge, Jetforce uses electronic avalanche airbag technology with an electronic inflator, which after triggering maintains the pressure in the airbag, and after a certain time deflates it, giving vital space for a person caught in an avalanche. This technology uses only ambient air for inflation. A huge advantage: the ability to make multiple launches during a trip, test launches for training, and independently deflate the airbag.
Now under the Pieps brand, a full range of products is produced, necessary for a freerider in his adventures in the mountains. Beepers support wireless control via Bluetooth from a smartphone using the Pieps-App, and have the ability to update the software. The company is constantly improving its products, introducing new developments to speed up and facilitate the search for victims of avalanches.
