The history of the company, which radically changed the appearance and use of the camping kitchen, began, like everything in this world, prosaically. Somewhere in the mid-1990s, an avid tourist and traveler Dwight Aspinwall considered that modern camping burners at that time were not very convenient to use in extreme conditions. To get dishes, a burner, a windbreak and fuel or a gas cylinder from a backpack at a parking lot or a stop, and then cook a hot meal, you had to spend a lot of time. The last straw for Aspinwall was a trip along the southern coast of Tasmania, which is full of tropical rains and strong, relentless sea winds, so cooking on the route during the trip was extremely difficult and time-consuming. But he didn’t have the skills to produce and launch a finished product on the market - Dwight earned money at that time by developing software. Therefore, as a partner in the future business, he invited his cousin Perry Dowst. Unlike Dwight, he received an engineering degree from Yale University and worked as a design engineer at Gillette for about 10 years until the early 2000s. He became the author of most of the technical know-how and implementations of the future innovative JetBoil burners.
In January 2001, the brothers quit their jobs and registered the company JetBoil.
They invested more than $70,000 in the design and production of the first prototypes: their own savings and money received from family and friends. The brothers had ready-made working prototypes of gas burners in their hands by the beginning of 2002, but due to the fact that the crisis had just begun, they were unable to find investors for a long time in their young project. Then Dwight and Perry took the most successful prototype of their burner and went directly to the board of directors of Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS), a large chain of sports stores in the USA. After the presentation, the brothers received an order for the production of a batch of 3,000 burners. After delivery to the chain of stores, the burners were sold out in less than a year.
After that, the JetBoil company attracted the interest of large investors. An investment of $1 million allowed them to open their production on the basis of an old textile factory in the state of New Hampshire.
Today, the JetBoil company owns many patents and developments, and has won many awards at equipment exhibitions.
JetBoil has become a household name. This is the name of almost all individual cooking systems in the world that have an integrated cup with a radiator and a gas burner.
The face of the brand is the Flash burner, which has been produced for travel enthusiasts for many years and has undergone minor design improvements. The main line of integrated burners consists of aluminum and titanium cups from 0.8 to 1.8 liters. These cups accommodate gas cylinders with a threaded valve of 100 g, 230 g, and in one version, the Sumo model accommodates a 450 g gas cylinder along with a removable gas burner.
The Flash system, modernized in 2018, instantly took the market by storm and remains a bestseller to this day.
