The history of Asolo is a story about love for one's work, about innovation, and, of course, about family - we are talking about Italy! And in this story - even about two families.

So, post-war Italy - the country is returning to a peaceful life and more and more Italians are starting to spend time in the mountains. And where we are talking about walks and more difficult hikes, the question immediately arises of comfortable and reliable shoes. In 1946, Oreste Zanatta and his wife open a small shoe workshop. Over time, the business expands, and in addition to repairs, the Zanatta family begins to sew shoes. The workshop is located in the small commune of Nerveza della Battaglia, in the province of Treviso - an area historically famous for its shoemakers. The boots were made from a single piece of selected leather and a molded rubber sole. Such shoes were reliable, practically waterproof and held their feet firmly on the stones.

Years passed, the 60s gave way to the 70s, the demand for trekking boots grew steadily. And along with the demand, the business, which was now run by the second generation of the family, grew. Ambrosiano Zanatta, his brothers and sisters, worked for the good of the family and it paid off - the small workshop expanded into a successful shoe company.

At the same time and in the same province of Treviso, Giancarlo Tanzi opens a company whose name was given to the place of foundation - the "shoe city" of Asolo. In 1975, Giancarlo was the first to decide to use the new Cordura material, intended for the army, for the manufacture of shoes. The idea of ​​using a synthetic fabric with excellent tear and abrasion resistance in hiking shoes was a great success.

By the way, this innovation changed not only the appearance of trekking boots that was familiar at that time, but also the hiking footwear market as a whole.

Further - more, Giancarlo does not stop, and with his team introduces the Asoflex midsole, designed to make long-term movement over difficult terrain more comfortable. And in 1980, the first in the industry, uses the Gore-Tex membrane in hiking boots. In 1985, the innovative AFS system was born at that time - a two-layer mountaineering boot, the outer shell of which is made of monolithically molded thermoplastic with an adapted inner boot. Such shoes were durable, weighed much less and provided a comfortable fit for the foot. In the early 90s, the company introduces a new development - the integrally molded Asoframe midsole, which provides protection against damage to the toe and heel. In addition, by adjusting the thickness of the protection individually for each model, it was possible to give the shoes the necessary rigidity.

And finally, in 1998, both stories merged. Ambrosiano's children - Anna, Marco and Luca bought out a controlling stake in Asolo. The new alliance was mutually beneficial - the third generation of the Zanatta family headed a reputable brand with high quality products, and the company in turn received new investments. Which immediately resulted in the opening of a new own shoe factory in the city of Sibiu, Romania. This allowed to significantly expand production, while retaining quality control. In Nerveza della Bataglia, a new company headquarters and logistics center were opened, from which products were sold to more than 40 countries around the world. Including Asolo North America, Inc, its branch in the USA.

A new look at the design of shoes allowed, while maintaining technological capabilities, to make it more attractive to the broad market. In 2005, the FSN 95 GTX model of shoes deservedly received the award "Best Hiking Shoes of the Year" from the authoritative American magazine Outdoor. The model, which has been produced for more than 15 years, enjoys great popularity and trust in army units and law enforcement agencies in many countries of the world.

The company does not stop developing new technologies and introducing innovations in our time. The women's line has expanded - the shoe, in addition to size, must take into account the anatomical features of the female foot. The range of shoes produced for light trekking and nature walks has significantly increased, and shoes for heavy trekking, mountaineering and high-altitude achievements are being improved.

Now Asolo, having retained its family traits and not stopping in development, is among the five leaders in the production of hiking shoes in Europe.
