Nothing fancy or overly complicated – just honest, hard-working stuff that you'd rather repair than replace. By climbers for climbers."
The history of Rab began in 1981 in the attic of a small, terraced house in Sheffield, where Reb Carrington made the first sleeping bag to bear his name. Handcrafted and in-house, Rab's experience gained from years in the mountains was reflected in his designs, and he soon became in great demand from both friends and the growing local climbing community.
But that wasn’t the end of it. Word soon spread and the Sheffield loft became a factory, producing sleeping bags and jackets for customers all over the world. Now, decades later, these honest and hard-wearing models can be found all over the world; wherever brave people face the elements. From the peaks of the Himalayas to cold, bracing evenings by the campfire.
The brand’s roots can be traced back to 1973, when Rab Carrington was stranded in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on his way to an expedition to Patagonia. Needing money, Rab turned to his friend Hector Vieites, who taught him the skills that would later change the future of technical sleeping bags.

We strive to put people at the center of what we do. From our partners and athletes to our staff, and everyone who has used and loved our gear, we are a global community that goes beyond the mountains and rocks, and we must ensure it is inclusive, diverse, and growing.
Our commitment to the future
We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of our business and making significant changes to how we produce, deliver and use our apparel and gear. We are committed to becoming more sustainable by reducing our reliance on fluorocarbons, repairing and reusing worn-out equipment, using more recycled fabrics and improving the lives of the workers who make our products. We are working with our entire community to find the best way forward. In the meantime, our journey continues.
